The power of Entrance area 玄関のチカラ
As I always say, entrance area at home and reception area in the restaurant or hotel is the most important place. It is a face of home.
When entrance area, the face of your home, is not smiling to you, you won't feel you are welcomed.
Neither will your family or guests. And this first impression you have in entrance area follows entire home.
私がよく言っていることなのですが、ご自宅の玄関あるいはレストランやホテルで言えばレセプションエリアは最も大事な場所です。玄関はお家の顔ですから。
玄関が、つまり皆さんのお家の顔が笑顔で迎え入れてくれなければ、歓迎された気持ちにはなりませんね。もし皆さんがご自宅に入る時にそのウェルカム感を感じられないということは、他の家族の方や訪問者も同じようにウェルカム感を感じられません。玄関で感じた第一印象が、お家全体に着いて回ります。
To let entrance area play its role "welcoming us" well, first thing I always tell my clients is never put anything "practical" "non-pretty" in entrance area.
Remove or hide all practical, non-pretty things and add something pretty, which you love or enjoy looking at.
玄関にその本分（つまり私たちを暖かく迎え入れる）を全うさせるには、「実用的なもの」「素敵じゃないもの」は絶対に玄関に置かないでくださいと私はクライアントさん達に伝えています。

This is one of my clients’ entrance area after consultation.
こちらはクライアントさんの一人の、コンサルテーション後の玄関です。
Pretty flowers, plants and two girls playing music in the picture are welcoming with nice lighting.
可愛いお花、植物、絵の中で音楽を演奏している女の子二人が、素敵な照明と共にウェルカムしてくれていますね。
Before consultation, there used to be many practical things as you can see below....
コンサルテーション前は、以下のようにたくさんの実用的なものが置いてありました。
There were two vacuum cleaners on the left side, a stroller beside the shelf. They are "practical things'. We do not really enjoy looking at them. The art on the wall was very nice but dark, cold color, so it was not for welcoming.
左側には２台の掃除機、棚の横にはストローラー。それらは、実用的なものです。私たちの目はそれらを見て喜びません。壁の絵は素敵ではあったのですが、色味が暗く冷たいので、玄関で歓迎するのには不向きでした。
This is another example, which is still ongoing project so we have not completed entrance area yet, however, in terms of removing practical things from the entrance, this one is also a good example.
これはまだ現在進行形のプロジェクトなのでまだ完成形ではないのですが、実用的なものを玄関から排除するということに関して、こちらのケースもまた良い例です。
Before consultation, this entrance was full of pairs of shoes, strollers, other small things such as hats, umbrellas, etc...
コンサルテーション前は、この玄関はむき出しになった靴の山、ストローラー、他の細々としたもので溢れていました。
The problem of this entrance is its size....very small and no storage, so if we put too many things, there will be no space for us coming in to enjoy being welcomed.
この玄関の問題は、サイズです、、、大変小さい上に収納がないので、もしたくさんの物を置いてしまうとスペースが全くなくなってしまい、ウェルカム感どころの話ではなくなってしまうのです。
So, we removed everything from the entrance and make space empty.
ですので、まずは全てを玄関から排除し、スペースを空にしました。
For this type of small entrance, which does not have long hall way from the entrance door, we have to make some tricks...we trick our eyes.
First, the shoe shelf's black color made space smaller, so we switch it with white one from other room. Because white color make space look wider.
玄関ドアからの奥行きが狭いこのような玄関の場合、あるトリックを使わなければいけません…私たちの目をごまかすのです。
まず、靴箱として使われていたシェルフの黒い色はスペースを狭く見せてしまうので、他の部屋にあるホワイトのシェルフと交換します。なぜなら白い色は、スペースを広く見せてくれるからです。
We also switch the flower painting with bamboo forest picture, adding more green color and nature feeling here.
This way, this bamboo picture plays as a window so that our eyes get tricked as if there are more spaces - bamboo forest - behind the window.
また、お花のアートを竹林の写真と交換し、グリーンの色と自然をこのエリアに加えていきます。このように、竹林の写真を窓として使って私たちの視覚をごまかして、あたかも窓の向こう側にさらなるスペース、竹林が広がっているかのように見せるのです。
Yet, shoes are still exposed, so we will make covers. And we will put legs on the shelf bottoms to adjust its height later. The bamboo picture is still on the shelf so our eyes still look at lower at this point.
これはまだ靴がむき出しになった状態ですが、これからカバーをする予定です。後に、シェルフの高さを調節するために脚をつけます。この段階ではまだ竹林の写真がシェルフの上に置きっぱなしの状態なので、私たちの目は下の方を見てしまいます。
Hang the bamboo picture on the wall so that our eyes look higher. We did not buy anything new - used only what we already have, but it looks totally new entrance. This is still in the process..I look forward to sharing a result when all completed.
写真を壁にかけ、私たちの目線を高く保つようにします。新しいものは一切買っていません、既に家にあるものを使うだけでも、これだけ玄関は新しく生まれ変わることができるのです。まだこれは途中段階なので、全てが終わったらその結果をシェアできるのを楽しみにしています。
To make entrance area better does not need cost. It requires a bit twist and trick.
